Woodbury Mountain BioBlitz: Turtles & More

September 8, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Meet-up location TBD; max. 20 participants. RSVP here to reserve your spot!

Join Kiley Briggs, a local herpetologist, to look for and learn about the reptiles and amphibians that live in Woodbury Mountain Wilderness Preserve. Frogs, salamanders, snakes, and turtles can all be found in the Preserve’s forest and wetlands. We will have up-close encounters with animals usually hidden from sight. We will also learn to record our sightings using the iNaturalist app, which is a fun way to learn about nature in your own backyard while contributing to science. Please wear sturdy footwear and be ready to get your feet a little wet; portions of the trip may be spent off-trail on uneven terrain. Be prepared for bugs, rain, and/or sun.

About Kiley: Kiley is the Director of Conservation for the Orianne Society, and works on a number of turtle conservation projects in the region. Growing up in the Champlain Valley, he always felt drawn to northeastern Vermont and set a goal to oneday live in a place where he could find Mink Frogs (a Northeast Kingdom special) in his own yard. He hasn’t found one in his yard yet, but he can sometimes hear them calling from his front steps on warm summer nights, which is always a treat.
