20th Anniversary 2022 Annual Report is now available

“We give thanks to the sun and soil, to the rain, to the pollinators who perform wonders, and to all our wild relations in the community of life. Our deepest desire is to be worthy cousins to the bears and bobcats, salmon and spleenworts with whom we share the land.”

—Northeast Wilderness Trust 20th Anniversary Annual Report

Northeast Wilderness Trust’s 20th Anniversary 2022 Annual Report features stories about thinking in tree time, rewilding forests, our growing ecology program, and other successes–you’ll even meet an Ancient Forest Society member.

Here are some things we know as we pause to reflect on 20 years of wilderness conservation:

  • We know that language and stories matter. Listen to Northeast Wilderness Trust’s Board President Mark Anderson consider the language in the Wilderness Act of 1964 in his 20th Anniversary letter.
    • And, on page 6 of the the Annual Report read “Some Wild Words We Love,” that re-connects us to all beings and helps us remember We Are One of Many.
  • Across New England today, wildlands comprise just 3.3% of the land—just slightly more when including New York.
  • We also know that we are grateful: for your learning, championing, giving; for the myriad beings making their homes on forever-wild acres across New England and New York; and for your support and collaboration as you show up to help us protect more.

Inside the 20th Anniversary Annual Report, you’ll find stories of newly protected wild places including:
