Home to the nation’s second-longest running collection of atmospheric carbon data, NEWT’s Howland Research Forest in Howland, Maine is both a rare old-growth forest and a haven for scientific study. When the land was at risk of being logged in the mid-2000s, NEWT stepped up to permanently protect the forest in partnership with the University of Maine and International Paper. Learn More.
