Within a year of its creation, NEWT protected its first piece of land: Hemlock Rock Forever-Wild Conservation Easement, 54 acres in New York that would be the first step in an ongoing effort to permanently protect the Split Rock Wildway, a proposed linkage connecting Lake Champlain to the High Peaks of the Adirondack Park.
