Tracking Class at Woodbury Mountain – FULL

February 19, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm

This event is currently at capacity. If you’d like to be added to the waitlist in case someone cancels, please contact Sophi Veltrop at sophi [@] newildernesstrust.org with the number of people in your party and your phone number.

Join Northeast Wilderness Trust and Sophie Mazowita of Tracking Connection for a half-day adventure at the newly acquired Woodbury Mountain Wilderness Preserve in Central Vermont. We’ll get a taste for who weathers the winter on this extensive wildland and how they move about in their home.

This event is limited to 10 people . We will meet at a carpool location and will rideshare to get to the Preserve in 2-3 cars.

Please bring a mask to wear when within 6 feet of other people. Sophie M. may remove her mask to speak to the group, but will maintain 6+ feet of distance when doing so.

Please come prepared for the weather, with proper layers, footwear, and water. The terrain will be flat and snowy with possible ice or water. Snowshoes are highly recommended. If you are in need of some kind of gear to make your participation in this event possible, contact Sophi [@] newildernesstrust.org and we will do our best to connect you with the appropriate gear.

Experiences like this are made possible by our wonderful community of supporters. Northeast Wilderness Trust is still raising funds to cover the full cost of protecting Woodbury Mountain and the Eagle Ledge Addition as forever-wild. Please consider a gift to this special place, and thank you!

About Sophie Mazowita

Sophie Mazowita is a naturalist, educator and wildlife guide currently based in Jeffersonville. Her wildlife tracking studies began with wolves in Ontario and lynx in Maine, and they’ve taken her as far as South Africa to trail lions and rhinos. In 2015 she initiated the Burlington VT Mammal Tracking Project to track core habitat and wildlife corridors in Vermont’s most urban region. She has also contributed to the Seattle Urban Carnivore Project and Conservation Northwest’s Community Wildlife Monitoring Program in the Washington Cascades, and she oversees a nonprofit dedicated to the training and certification of wildlife trackers across North America. She offers her own tracking programs through Tracking Connection and also guides wildlife trips to view wolves, bison and polar bears with Natural Habitat Adventures.
